“So many people still don’t know that they can play such an important role in the quality of healthcare that they receive from their local hospitals…people’s investments in their local hospitals through philanthropy, through planned legacy gifts really determines the quality of healthcare that their families and community will receive on an ongoing basis.”
Al Roberts
It was a great pleasure to speak with Al Roberts, Managing Director Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor Foundation with his special guest Merlin the Magician.
Hospitals have a particular challenge as the assumption tends to be that hospitals receive all the funding they need from the government and this simply is not true. We discussed how one of Al’s 3 wishes granted to him in this conversation is to help our communities know and understand that providing the level of care we all want requires financial gifts either now or in your will to our health care providers.
He talked about how much we all need to understand that gifts to charities are a win-win-win proposition and all of our advisors – Lawyers, Accountants, Financial Advisors have key roles to play in the planned giving process because talking about money can be a tough conversation.
Financial Planning Week, Nov 16-23 2020 is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance and benefits of professional financial planning for Canadians. My focus this week has been to highlight the importance of integrating planned giving into the financial planning process, and to have meaningful conversations around addressing the philanthropic needs of clients, opportunities that are being missed in traditional financial planning.
Information Is Power – it’s important to begin imagining how we as financial advisors can support charities and our clients, while making a greater impact on the world. Financial planning week is the perfect opportunity to engage in these conversations and educate ourselves, and the industry as a whole.
